Colour Groups & Curricula

RE Colour Groups

Our Religious Education program is a cooperative program where all parents and members of the congregation are involved in the nurturing of our young attendees. In the interest of providing each young person with a fun and rewarding experience, we offer five groups with approximate age ranges listed below.  Depending on class numbers(usually 6-8 children per class) and volunteer support, we may adjust the group’s age range slightly.  If you are not sure where your child would fit best, please talk to the Director of Religious Education.

Curriculum

This year, we are anticipating basing our year on the UU Neighbouring Faiths curriculum which introduces children and youth to the faith traditions and practices of other religious groups in their community. In particular we will focus on those Faith Traditions that we share our building with and our Saskatoon community.

For more information on this curriculum please refer to: http://books.google.ca/books/about/Neighboring_Faiths.html?id=cQg5E6PVxeYC&redir_esc=y

Classroom Ages: (may change depending on enrolment and attendance)

Nursery – (Upper classroom) – 0-4 years. Young Children enjoy our nursery under the care of a parent or guardian.  The service is heard over speaker piped into the room.  A wide variety of toys, books and craft materials provide a creative and fun environment for little ones.  A snack, very simple, will be provided unless parents specify otherwise.

Jr. Kids (Pre-K-Gr. 2) – (Lower Hall) - Our younger children will meet downstairs to explore the many concepts of our curriculum.  Parents are more than welcome to  join in.

Sr. Kids (Gr. 3-5) – (Lower Hall) - Our older children meet in the downstairs hall and often interact with the younger children, but will explore similar concepts with more depth and complexity.

Jr. Youth (Gr. 6-7) (Lower Hall) – Jr. Youth curriculum will largely borrow from the Neighbouring Faiths curriculum but will incorporate a more self-directed inquiry.  There will often be a chance to share with the Sr. Youth Group.

Sr. Youth (Gr. 8+) - (Upstairs Classroom) – Our Sr. Youth Group is encouraged to help shape their own areas of study.  Discussions are both formal and informal and are often led by the youth themselves.  Youth Advisors are on hand to guide discussion and promote leadership within the group.
