a) Disputes always follow a lack of knowledge
The conflict between Religion and Socialism is based on the ignorance of the Church on as to what Socialism is, and of the ignorance of the Socialists as to what Religion is.

b) The church dogma does incorrectly represent religion.
No social party correctly represents Socialism. Both tumbled into the dead line of dogma.
Both religion and socialism need to be saved from its friends.
The man or institution of one book.
Is it in the Bible? Is it in Marx?

1) Dogmatism in the church, and the one book idea made the church the avowed enemy of all advancement in knowledge & science.
Accepted it only when by doubtful methods it could be located in the Bible.
Theosophy taught in the first chapter of Genesis
a. This antagonism was at first as much of an accident as logical
Scientific Socialism of Marx launched simultaneously with Darwin's Evolution.
One was associated with the other.
Twins in affliction.
Church opposed them both.
Confused dogma with religion.
Confused socialism with the rationalism of the 18th century.
Church could not do other than fight Evolution and economic determined when she believed that both destroyed religion.
But they only undermined dogma.
Socialism held up its head as an economic science, not as a metaphysical interpretation of the Universe.
But when Socialism got its feet it fought the church with the same dogmatic ignorance that the church had fought it.
Babel and Leibknecht. as examples.
Babel declared in Reighstag Dec. 31, 1881 -
· “On politics - Republicanism,
· -In economics - socialism,
· -In religion , Atheism.”
Leibknecht - “It is our duty as Socialists to root out God with all our zeal, nor is any one worthy of the name who does not consecrate himself to the spread of atheism.”
The Socialist leaders re-canted.
Dogmatic atheism has become obsolete.
Enough to do to educate the people in the laws governing social phenomena without troubling about God.
Babel, “Our party is continually moulting , and is not wedded to any dogma.”
Leibknecht . “Social democracy as such has absolutely nothing to do with religion.”

Two wings.
Orthodox socialist would not admit that these men are socialists any more than the Pope would accept me as an exponent of religion.
Orthodox Socialism is as much out of date as orthodox religion.
Identical in their characteristics.
· One Book. Bible and capital.
· Both inactive as to present conditions.
One offers Heaven, other offers a nebulous concept.
· Both undertake to say who is who.
You are supposed to be a Christian if the church accepts you.
You are a socialist if the party accepts you.
I am a Christian and a Socialist even if they both reject me.

Let Human Happiness or welfare be the basis of our Economic and religious efforts, and it is possible to work together.
Deitizgen: (quote) “If we bury Dogma we bury strife.”

WHY THEY ARE APART TO-DAY .
Yet the church in its present position , while it may sympathize with socialism does not help but may hinder.

2) Church has become a Class Institution.
Suggested chiefly by those who have profited best by present system.
a. Church should be prepared to die for her principles, but she is not.
Business comes before principles.
b. She should be able to see that socialism would be best of all.
c. That Socialism will make possible to a great extent the ethics she is preaching.
Impossible to be a Christian under the present system.

3) Church tolerates the tactics of the orthodox Socialists.
Their educational propaganda is good.
Not interested in the present.
