Position: RE Colour Group Leader
(Sunday School Teacher)

Responsibilities:

  1. Preparation
  • arrange to receive the curriculum as soon in advance as possible. – the week before is preferred.
  • talk with the volunteer who last worked with the group if there are any concerns to be aware of; or talk with the Director of Religious Education (DRE)
  • make sure to read through the lesson early in the week. Let the DRE know by Thursday pm at the latest, if there are supplies and materials needed for Sunday morning. The DRE will also contact you on Wednesday to remind you to look at the curriculum.
  • choose activities from the session plan. You will have between 40-60 minutes with the kids. (snack will be served at 11:30 am).
  1. Sunday Morning
  • arrive at approx. 10:15 am to make sure all supplies and resource materials are where you need them.
  • take part in Children’s Worship either in Coburn Hall the first Sunday of the month, or downstairs all other Sundays.
  • go through the session with the children.
  • encourage discussion during snack time. Finishing up projects as well.
  • clean up the room with the help of the children around 11:45 am.
  • have a cup of coffee once the children are with their parents J
  1. Follow up
  • give the DRE feedback as to how the morning went.
  • make notes in the communication binder for the next volunteer, but be mindful that the children will read this as well.
  • return curriculum materials either to the DRE or to the volunteer who will be with the group next – unless you are volunteering the next week.

  • interest in children, youth and learning;
  • commitment to the Mission of the R.E. Program and to the Unitarian Universalist Principles.

Time Commitment: (suggestion only)

  • Can be tailored to fit your schedule.
  • 1 month (4 consecutive Sundays), twice a year.
  • 30-60 minutes prep time + 60 minute class time each Sunday.
