Position: Religious Education Committee Chair
(Religious Education Convenor)

Responsibilities:

1. Planning
  • Work with the Board in the recruitment and hiring of the Director of Religious Education (DRE).
  • Ensure that DRE’s yearly contract is signed by all parties.
  • Plan to hold a meeting in the June-Aug time frame to prepare for the upcoming church school year.
  • Plan a calendar of monthly RE Committee meetings for the year.
  • Set calendar for RE events at calendar setting meeting.

    2. On-going Work

  • Delegate jobs to committee members as necessary: secretary; childcare coordinator; teacher staffing; snack purchasing;
  • Liaise with the DRE, Board of Trustees and RE liaison, minister etc.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support of the DRE.
  • Set agenda for each monthly RE meeting, using previous agendas, the DRE monthly report, and requests from committee members and DRE.
  • Facilitate meetings.
  • Oversee activities of the committee members.

    3. Follow-up

  • Prepare written and oral report of committee activites for the Annual Meeting in May.
  • Carry out an annual review of the DRE’s job performance in cooperation with the RE Committee and the Board.

  • Interest in working with other members of the congregation.
  • Commitment to the Mission of the R.E. Program and to the Unitarian Universalist Principles.

Time Commitment (suggestion only):

  • 1-2 meetings per month; monthly contact with DRE in person or via email
