DRAFT — 1 April 2008
Revisions to Carl, please

Position: Child Care Coordinator
(nursery and special events)

  • See also job description for Child Care Provider - link at left.
  • Recently these responsibilities have been carried by the DRE, which is not necessarily ideal; it would be better to have a volunteer do these if possible.
  • This is not a direct child-care position but an organizational or supervisory volunteer position.
Responsibilities:
  1. Recruit, orient, train, supervise, consult with, and recognize the work of the Sunday morning child care provider (babysitter).
  2. Ensure that arrangements are in place for payment of the babysitter.
  3. Keep a list of reliable people available to do child care for special events; receive calls from leaders in the congregation and refer them to these child care providers.
  4. Post and keep parents informed of expectations for the nursery, in collaboration with the DRE and the babysitter.
  5. Make sure that arrangements for snack and cleanup are in place and observed (e.g., making sure that the babysitter or someone else vacuums the floor before and/or after sessions as needed).
  6. Check with the babysitter about supplies needed and organize someone to get them.
  7. Provide liaison between the parents, babysitter, and DRE to resolve issues as they arise.
  8. Consult with parents, DRE, and babysitter on polices to maintain safety in the nursery, and ensure that everyone is aware of these.

Interests and experience: Awareness of child care functions. Experience with staff supervision or with volunteer management.

Time Commitment: One to two hours per month (on average), mostly not on Sunday mornings.
