Religious Education for Children and Youth
in the Unitarian Congregation of Saskatoon

Curricula

Chalice Children – designed to help pre-schoolers learn about their church and congregation.

Connecting Kids – A great activity resource based on physical movement and the Arts.  Connects kids with one another, and is great for the pre-school age group.

Stories about God – The goals of this curriculum say it best:

  • To offer the children a variety of experiences with that which people call God
  • To help the children develop a language with which they can speak of God
  • To expose the children to a wide variety of stories from all of the world religions; from feminist experience, from science and from the ordinary.
  • To foster the understanding that God can take many forms and is called by many names.
  • To give the children the opportunity to express their own thoughts and feelings concerning God.
Special Times - Acquaints children with the Jewish and Christian heritages and engages them in celebrating Jewish and Christian holidays and other "special times" such as the Shabbat/Sabbath, Thanksgiving, and everybody's birthday.

You, the Creator – a Fine Arts based curriculum, focused on the creativity of each individual.  “The goal is creative empowerment, intending to lead participants to new ideas and new experiences but not to specific beliefs.”
A Stepping Stone Year - This program is based on the premise that religion helps people find answers to important life questions and that a religious community can help people in their search for answers. Units include Beginning Myths, Stories Science Tells Us, The Wonder of Birth, Adventures of Our People (American, Canadian, and English UUs), Wonderings About Death, and Making Decisions.

Neighbouring Faiths
- In keeping with the UU principle of the free and responsible search for truth and meaning, this program actively engages participants in exploring the religious traditions of faiths in their community.
It Starts With Me – A Social Action based curriculum that focuses on the small ways we can make a difference in our community.
