Did you know?UCS has a freshly organized collection of interesting and useful paper materials! In particular, a fascinating library, shelves of resources and other materials in the office, and comprehensive archives await investigation! |
Library:The library is located next to the Religious Education office off the hall leading from the rear parking lot. It's open Sundays after the service. You might want to check with Bobbi or Katherine (653-2402) at other times to ensure that the room is available, as it is sometimes used for meetings or rented out. The library operates on an honour system. Please be sure to include the date, your name and phone number in the sign-out book in the library. Browse and enjoy! |
Resources & Materials in the Office:These are located on the open shelves of twin wood cupboards in the office. The shelves in the cupboard closest to the door include: (top shelf) CONGREGATIONAL MATERIALS such as Orders of Service, Board Minutes, The Challenge, Newsletters, our just completed Congregational Manual, and a whole variety of SPECIALIZED RESOURCES (2nd shelf) developed by UUA and CUC, handbooks, directories, catalogues, book lists, etc. Look to the left for a complete listing of the items located there. The cupboard to the right of the office window contains (top shelf) overflow from the library, and UU World back issues. Curious about CUC, UUA, social action programs, adult religious education curricula, how the work of our congregation gets done, and how to grow our congregation? This and a great deal more can be found here. Please leave a note on the desk when you remove any item from the shelves, or from anywhere in the office, and when you return any item. The note should have the date, your name and phone number, and the name of the item. Also, if you bring something to the office for some purpose, it will be helpful if you leave a note for our office volunteers so they will know what to do with it. This will help them immensely to keep track of items and to keep things orderly and in their proper places. |
Archives:Our congregation has a considerable 'historical paper-trail', including: 1) copies of The Challenge newsletter, preserved in the federal archives in Ottawa; 2) boxes of records, mostly from 1949-1989, protected in the provincial archives at the U. of S.; and 3) files and boxes of archival material stored at the Centre (in the main floor Storage Room and the basement Creation Room). Indexes re: contents and location of archives are in the top drawer of the filing cabinet in the main floor storage room. Removing archival items is strongly discouraged; however, photocopying archives is possible, if originals are returned immediately. Questions concerning archives (including borrowing material) can be directed to the Communications Committee (responsible for overseeing the archival system) by way of the UCS Postmaster. |

is wonderful, especially when we can find it when we need it! Hopefully this clarifies how to locate more of what you might be looking for around UCS. |
