Mindful Living

Mindful living grew out of our Voluntary Simplicity group. It was one of our most popular groups. This group explored more conscientious ways of living, and regularly hosted guest speakers on a variety of issues: financial, economic, environmental, food and health, and lifestyle. Mindful Living formerly met regularly on the third Friday of the month.

Kids at Risk

Kids at risk sponsored a literacy project in the public school system. Members of our congregation met each week with youth at Caswell school to help them develop better reading and writing skills.

Solidarity Across Sexual Orientation  (SASO)

The mission of SASO was to celebrate the universal gift of our human diversity. We offered support to straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgendered members and friends of our congregation and the larger community. We led the ‘Welcoming Congregation’ process intended to make our Congregation a safe place to be. We strove to educate and to create greater awareness of the issues of straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, and trans-gendered people within our congregation as well as the larger community in order to promote peace and solidarity with all people.

Peace Making

The Peace Making Task Force is primarily involved in sponsoring the Alternatives to Violence Project. We have just finished training our first group of local facilitators and have set up the Saskatchewan Alternative to Violence Project.

Partner Church
The history of Unitarianism includes strong roots in Transylvania, a Hungarian-speaking enclave in what is currently Romania. The Partner Church Council, affiliated with the UUA but not administered by it, arranges pairings between Transylvanian and North American congregations. UCS’ partner is the tiny congregation of Rugonfalva. It is one of three congregations served by a young woman, Rev. Noemi Szeredai.

On December 1st we sent our partner church the $483 US which we had raised for them in the previous year. They plan to use the money for Christmas packages for children and youth including sweets, school equipment, pens, notebooks, crayons and vitamins. They also hope to purchase some Religious Education supplies and still have a fund for youth and members of the Congregation to support religious activities and to help members attend meetings and conferences. Linda Charlton has also sent our embroidered ‘Blessings Cushion’ to wish them well.

With this last gift our formal partnering with Rugonfalva ends, to be replace by partnership with a congregation in Massachussetts.
